September 28, 2004 — A study released this week found that the use of dietary supplements such as calcium and folic acid could save billions of dollars in health care costs over the next five years. The study, unveiled at a Sept. 22 hearing of the House Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, provides evidence to support both the health promotion, and prevention benefits, of selected supplements, as well as potential health-care cost savings.
