September 20, 2004 — Scientific researchers at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, found that high-dose vitamin E appeared to reduce oxidative stress to cells by improving liver function among adults who were overweight. Their findings, which were printed in the journal Diabetes Care, support the conclusions of recent studies which found that people whose diets had a healthy dose of antioxidants, including vitamin E, had healthier blood sugar metabolism than those with lower antioxidant intakes. Vitamin E has also been shown to help improve insulin sensitivity, an important factor in blood sugar control.
