Pharmanex Increases Recommended Serving of Tegreen 97® Based on New Science

PROVO, Utah - March 28, 2003 - Pharmanex announced a change to the serving amount of one of its top-selling products, Tegreen 97®—a proprietary extract taken from green tea leaves. Some recent clinical trials have shown that catechins—potent antioxidants found in Tegreen 97®—leave the body rather quickly. In response to these findings, Pharmanex has changed its recommended dosage from one capsule a day to up to one to two capsules taken twice daily. By increasing the recommended use, not only are the numbers of catechins in the blood increased, but the amount of time they stay in the body is also lengthened.

This action is a result of new research that has recently emerged and Pharmanex's commitment to keep its products in line with current scientific research. Pharmanex considers scientific studies and research to be the core of its product development process. And the company believes products should be altered to reflect new findings in the nutrition industry when the science is credible and the findings are significant.

"As scientific research in the nutritional industry improves, we at Pharmanex have a responsibility to adapt our product offerings to mesh with the new findings," said Carsten Smidt, Ph.D., senior director of research and development for Pharmanex. "This is why we are making some changes to the recommended usage of our Tegreen 97® product."

"The new recommended daily intake of Tegreen 97® will better support healthy cell function and antioxidant protection," said Joseph Chang, Ph.D., president of Pharmanex.

Green tea has been used traditionally in China for thousands of years for its health-preserving and revitalizing power. Modern science has identified powerful antioxidants in green tea called polyphenols. One group of polyphenols called catechins is particularly potent and is highly effective at neutralizing free radicals at the cellular level. Catechins support healthy cell function while providing antioxidant protection to critical cell structures such as DNA.

Tegreen 97® is one of the most potent antioxidant supplements on the market with a 97 percent polyphenol content, 75 percent of which are catechins. Each Tegreen 97® capsule contains the catechin equivalent of approximately seven cups of green tea and is 99.5 percent caffeine free.
