How do Reishi oil products compare to ReishiMax GLp?

Q. What is ReishiMax GLp?
A. ReishiMax GLp is a standardised Reishi mushroom extract formulated to provide nutritional support for a healthy immune system.

Q. What ingredients are in ReishiMax GLp?
A. ReishiMax GLp is composed of Red Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) fruiting bodies and cracked spores. The active ingredients in ReishiMax GLp are standardised to 6% triterpenes and 13.5% polysaccharides, which is the highest level of actives available in a Reishi extract. ReishiMax GLp also contains a 1% extract of 100% cracked spores.

Q. Who should take ReishiMax GLp?
A. ReishiMax GLp is intended for adults who wish to maintain a healthy immune system; who smoke or who are frequently exposed to environmental pollutants; who do not get enough sleep; or who feel run down.

Q. How is ReishiMax GLp different from other Reishi products?
A. ReishiMax GLp is a proprietary Reishi extract, containing the highest level of actives currently on the market. This standardised product also incorporates cracked spores, a unique technology that releases Reishi's active ingredient, providing unique immune activity not found in other Reishi products.

Additionally, many other Reishi products do not contain the beneficial whole Reishi mushroom. These products are manufactured by culturing Reishi mycelium with a grain medium using soybeans, rice, and other grains. The end product is ground up, resulting in a product containing large amounts of ground grain and only small amounts of Reishi mycelium. ReishiMax GLp, on the other hand, is produced through solid wood log cultivation (see next question).

Q. How is ReishiMax GLp processed?
A. ReishiMax GLp is produced through solid wood log cultivation, which requires a 120-200 day cultivation period. This method is preferred to sawdust and liquid cultivation because it yields both polysaccharides and triterpenes from the fruiting body. In addition, other cultivation methods are prone to contamination and are difficult to control quality. Pharmanex has chosen to use red Reishi in ReishiMax GLp because it can produce the highest quality extract and has been subject to the most scientific evaluation.

Pharmanex has developed an exclusive multi-step extraction process that increases the yield and concentration of active ingredients. Most Reishi products only use one extraction process, which results in a product with lower concentrations of active ingredients, and often lacks the triterpene compounds. This exclusive technology detaches additional polysaccharides from the cell walls. The resulting product, ReishiMax GLp, is standardised to 6% triterpenes and 13.5% polysaccharides, which is the highest level of actives currently available in a Reishi product.

Q. How does ReishiMax GLp work?
A. ReishiMax GLp supports healthy immune system function by stimulating the immune system into action with a proprietary standardised Reishi formula. According to the results in vitro studies, ReishiMax GLp has been demonstrated to stimulate the immune system, stimulate the ability of proliferation of immune cells, speed up the actions of the immune system, and modulate the functions of the immune system.

Q. Why is it important to support the immune system?
A. When functioning properly, the immune system is a formidable defence mechanism essential to maintaining optimal health. It recognises a seemingly infinite number of viruses and bacteria and will even defend against changes in our own cells that pose serious threats to our well-being. The immune system helps to prevent the consequences of these changes by removing damaged or aged cells and identifying and destroying altered cells damaged by oxidative stress.

Q. What is the difference between cell-mediated and humoral immunity?
A. There are two main functional components of the acquired immune system - humoral immunity and cell-mediated immunity. Both of these systems overlap and work together synergistically to afford an effective immune system. Humoral immunity involves general responses by antibodies to foreign invaders, while cell-mediated immunity is more specific in its response and is directed by T lymphocytes.

Q. How can one enhance their immune system?
A. Maintaining a healthy immune system includes getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and avoiding toxins such as cigarette smoke and industrial pollution that put an extra burden on our natural defences. A healthy, balanced diet rich in dietary ingredients that have been demonstrated to support optimal immune function can also provide much needed support to a healthy immune system.

Q. Are there scientific studies validating ReishiMax GLp?
A. ReishiMax GLp clinical studies and references are available on the web site www.pharmanex.com.au.

Q. How are the ingredients in ReishiMax GLp standardised?
A. The active ingredients in ReishiMax GLp are standardised to 6% triterpenes and 13.5% polysaccharides, which is the highest level of actives available in a Reishi extract. ReishiMax GLp also contains a 1% extract of 100% cracked spores. The constituents in ReishiMax GLp are standardised through scientific and analytical methods to ensure that every capsule contains the specific level of constituents, every time.

Q. How is ReishiMax GLp supplied?
A. ReishiMax GLp is supplied in a 15-30 day supply of 60 capsules. Each capsule contains 495 mg of standardised Reishi mushroom extract and 5 mg of Reishi cracked spores.

Q. What are the directions for use?
A. As a dietary supplement, take one to two capsules of ReishiMax GLp with liquid at your morning and evening meals. For optimal health benefits, take one (1) capsule twice daily for health maintenance, and two (2) capsules twice daily for more proactive immune modulation.

Q. Is there anyone who should not use ReishiMax GLp?
A. If you are pregnant or lactating, have a known medical condition or are taking a prescription medication, consult a physician prior to use. Individuals with known fungal allergies should be cautious when taking Reishi.

Q. Is ReishiMax GLp safe?
A. ReishiMax GLp is safe and well tolerated at the recommended dosage.

Q. Are there any known drug interactions?
A. There are no known drug interactions. Consult a physician if you are concurrently using anticoagulants, receiving immunosuppressive therapies or have an immune disorder.

Q. What are the differences between Reishi and ReshiMax GLp?
A.
  • ReishiMax GLp contains more active ingredients: 13.5% polysaccharides and 6% Triterpenes, while Reishi contains only 12.5% polysaccharides and 4% Triterpenes
  • ReshiMax GLp contains 100% Reishi broken-spores extract, which have highly active substances

Q. What does the GLp in ReishiMax GLp stand for?
A. GLp stands for Ganoderma Lucidum Polysaccharide. Ganoderma lucidum is the latin name for reishi mushroom, and the polysaccharides are one of the active ingredients we standardise in this product. The level of active polysaccharides in ReishiMax GLp are the highest in the industry.

Q. Are we the only company with the cracked spore technology?
A. We have 100% cracked spores. The other products have 30-50%. The proprietary rights of the cracked spore technology is owned by Hua-Tung University of Technology in Mainland China.

Q. What is the source of our Reishi?
A. Our Reishi is commercially produced in the An Hui Province of Mainland China. The reishi mushrooms are cultivated on logs.

Q. What is the amount of copper found in ReishiMax GLp?
A. The copper content of ReishiMax GLp contains about 2.3 to 9.8ppm and the average content is 5.2ppm (tested by our QC), which is quite low. For instance, LifePak contains about 0.5 mg of copper ion per packet (about 330 ppm).

Q. Does ReishiMax GLp contain any mercury?
A. No, it does not contain mercury.

Q. Does ReishiMax GLp contain coumarin?
A. No. ReishiMax GLp was analysed for coumarin and no coumarin was found.

Q. Did ReishiMax GLp win Taiwan's National Bio-Tech Award?
A. Both Tegreen 97 and ReishiMax GLp received the Quality Award in the "Year 2002 National Bio-Tech Award". Accepting this award in Taiwan means the outstanding quality of Pharmanex products have been recognised again by experts, government officials, and scholars. This award was accepted by Charlene Chiang, NS Taiwan on November 14, 2002.

Q. Does Reishi Max cause an acidic condition in the body? A distributor referenced a book that says that anyone that is susceptible to cancer should never eat or take mushrooms because they make the body too acidic because acidic conditions are a fertile ground for cancer cells. What is Pharmanex's position?
A. Pharmanex scientists do not believe that it makes sense logically that ReishiMax (or any mushroom extract) would cause any sort of change of the pH in the body. The body has an incredible balance system that keeps the pH in homeostasis between a narrow range of 7.35-7.45. ReishiMax is an extract with many of the original mushroom components removed. The remaining product contains polysaccharides and triterpenes, and is not at an acidic pH. We do not recommend for any of our supplements to be used concurrently with cancer treatment unless otherwise advised by your physician. If you have a medical condition, please consult your physician to determine if ReishiMax is appropriate for you and your condition.

Q. How would Reishi mushroom affect a person suffering from Lupus?
A. There are some publications regarding benefits of Reishi to Lupus patients. Particularly, Reishi or ReishiMax GLp will help to modulate the body's immune system, enhancing immune protection and reducing abnormal immune responses. There are a number of distributors with Lupus currently using ReishiMax GLp, but Pharmanex recommends that anyone with an existing medical condition consult with their physician before taking any supplements.

Q. How do Reishi oil products compare to ReishiMax GLp?
A. Reishi oil extracts will only contain triterpenes and fatty acids but not polysaccharides which are the components responsible for immune activities. The main reason Pharmanex used the powder is to mimic the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation in order to capture all the active components in Reishi. In addition, a powder delivery will have better stability and antimicrobial properties.
