What Are Flavonoids?
Function: Phytonutrients with antioxidant benefits.
Definition: There are over 4000 Flavonoids (Polyphenols) occurring in nature. Many of them are potent antioxidant phytonutrients found in plant-derived foods, spices and herbs like citrus fruits ("bioflavonoids", esperidin, naringin), onions (quercetin, red grapes) and red wine (anthocyanins, quercetin, resveratrol), bilberries (anthocyanosides), grape seeds (proanthocyanins), soy foods (isoflavones), green tea (catechins) and chocolate. Flavonoids are often the nutritionally beneficially compounds found in herbal dietary supplements such as St John's Wort (hypericum).
What Is the Benefit of Grape Seed Extract?
Function: Source of proanthocyanins and other antioxidant flavonoids.
Definition: Grape seed extract is an excellent source of biologically active flavonoids (Polyphenols), which are natural compounds present in plant foods that may contribute significantly to the health and well-being of humans. Pharmanex's grape seed extract provides a high concentration of proanthocyanins (leucoanthocyanins) which are potent antioxidant nutrients that help neutralise harmful free radicals and help maintain a normal platelet function. In contrast to many other dietary flavonoids, the proanthocyanins (leucoanthocyanins) grape seeds are readily absorbed and have high bioavailability.
